Welcome to the Waterline Grant Project #7219399 information page.

In the Spring of 2018 the City of Santa Fe and WCID#8 teamed up and applied for a grant through the Texas Department of Agriculture for the amount of $350,000.00 for support of water improvements. In November 2019, the City of Santa Fe received notice that TDA approved a Community Development Fund grant to the City and WCID8.

The City of Santa Fe and WCID8 hired Grantworks to administer the grant and John D. Mercer & Associates to be the engineer of record.

December 2019, WCID8 and the City of Santa Fe met with the engineer and discussed the necessary improvements, did numerous surveys, and started the planning and drawing process of the project for the following streets:

  • 8th Street
  • 12th Street
  • 23rd Street
  • Avenue I
  • 25th Street
  • Avenue G 1/2
  • 21st Street

On June 25, 2020, Texas Commission of Environmental Quality sent notice to John D. Mercer & Associates stating that the planning material for the proposed system or water line improvements project met the requirements and approved the project.

As of August 3, 2020, the engineer sent preliminary drawings to the City of Santa Fe and WCID8 for approval. After the plans have been revised and reviewed, the bidding process will take place for the construction of the project.

The water/sewer line project is expected to start February 2021 for the block of 21st Street to 25th Street off of FM 646 South. Please expect delays and detours. The project is expected to last approximately 3 months - 6  months.

Below you will find the letter from TDA, the letter of approval from TCEQ, and the preliminary drawings of the waterline project.

More good news:

In July 2019, the City of Santa Fe also applied for the CDBG-DR grant through The Texas General Land Office under the Hurricane Harvey Disaster Recovery Program for the amount of $1,389,501.00 for street and drainage improvements for 21st Street through Avenue G 1/2. The City received notice of the award and signed a contract with the General Land Office in November of 2019.

This grant is being used for the street improvements and drainage along some of the streets that the water line improvement grant is being used for. After the new waterlines are installed, the drainage and street improvement project will start. The design phase is currently in process by Mercer Engineering.
